Nationals Acquire Chase Hampton from Yankees

The Washington Nationals have announced the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Chase Hampton, who was claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees and subsequently optioned to Double-A.

To accommodate Hampton on the 40-man roster, the Nationals moved Matt Waldron from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL, effectively ending Waldron's season. Hampton, a former top-100 prospect, was designated for assignment by the Yankees earlier this week after struggling with an 8.18 ERA and allowing 13 home runs over 55 innings in the minors.

At 25 years old, Hampton has minor league options available, making him a low-risk addition for the rebuilding Nationals. Meanwhile, Waldron, who was claimed from the Blue Jays earlier this season, finished with a 6.54 ERA over 42 2/3 innings across three teams. Additionally, the Nationals activated left-hander Richard Lovelady from the 60-day IL, who has been sidelined since late June due to a triceps strain.
