Nationals Acquire Matt Waldron from Blue Jays
The Washington Nationals have announced the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Matt Waldron, who was claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. This move comes as the Nationals look to bolster their pitching staff.
This marks Waldron's second team change via the waiver wire in less than a month. After being designated for assignment by the San Diego Padres in late July, he was claimed by the Blue Jays shortly thereafter. Following four appearances with Toronto, Waldron found himself designated for assignment again before joining Washington.
Waldron has faced challenges this season, posting a 7.54 ERA over 37 innings pitched with both the Padres and Blue Jays. However, his 4.11 SIERA suggests that he has been somewhat unlucky, as indicated by a .361 batting average on balls in play. His walk rate stands at 5.9%, but he has struggled to generate strikeouts, with an 18.3% rate, down from 20.3% in previous seasons.
