Meanwhile, Cosgrove, who joined the Nationals in July after a trade with the Astros, has struggled recently, leading to his designation.

Cosgrove, 30, has pitched in the majors for four seasons, with a career ERA of 4.59. His performance has declined this season, with a significant drop in velocity and difficulty stranding baserunners. If he clears waivers, he may opt for free agency.
