Nationals Call Up Jared Simpson for September

The Washington Nationals are set to call up left-handed pitcher Jared Simpson, according to reports. This move will make him the team's second call-up for September, joining infielder Yohandy Morales.

Simpson, who was drafted by the Nationals in the eighth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, has spent the current season between Double-A and Triple-A, accumulating 58 2/3 innings with a 2.30 earned run average. He has recorded a notable 28.9% strikeout rate and a 57.5% ground-ball rate, although he has struggled with command, walking 15% of batters faced.

At 26 years old, Simpson has primarily served as a bullpen prospect, and this call-up comes as rosters expand from 26 to 28 players. He has been averaging 94.6 mph on his four-seam fastball and 94.2 mph on his sinker in Triple-A, with a changeup and slider as his main offspeed pitches.
