Nationals Designate Miles Mikolas for Assignment, Promoting Jackson Kent
The Washington Nationals announced the designation of veteran pitcher Miles Mikolas for assignment, allowing prospect Jackson Kent to make his major league debut against the Cubs.
This decision follows the recent release of Zack Littell and comes just before Mikolas reaches a 10-year service milestone. The Nationals have now parted ways with all three pitchers they signed to major league contracts this offseason, with Foster Griffin being the most successful of the trio.
Mikolas struggled during his time with the team, posting a 5.82 earned run average over 116 innings and allowing 27 home runs, ranking among the highest in the majors. Despite his control, he has not been effective in recent seasons, with an ERA above 4.78 since 2023. The Nationals will continue to pay Mikolas' remaining salary and he will be placed on release waivers, becoming a free agent within 48 hours.
