NBA Expansion Decision Expected Soon for Las Vegas and Seattle

The NBA is advancing towards a decision regarding expansion, with significant deadlines approaching for Las Vegas and Seattle. Recent reports indicate that the league, along with financial advisors PJT Partners, has requested detailed information from bidders interested in establishing teams in these cities.

Earlier this month, bidders were asked to submit information including potential investor names and financial proposals. A second bidding deadline for Las Vegas is set for September, while no date has been established for Seattle. Sources suggest that the NBA may prioritize selecting an owner for the Las Vegas franchise first.

Although expansion fees have not been finalized, estimates range from $7 billion to $10 billion per franchise, with Las Vegas potentially nearing the higher end of that spectrum. Leading contenders for the Las Vegas team include Bill Foley and Walmart's Nancy Walton Laurie. For Seattle, Samantha Holloway is currently the only known bidder, although other interested groups have been mentioned. A Board of Governors meeting next month may lead to a final decision on expansion by year-end.
