NBA Fines LA Clippers $41.5 Million Over Salary Cap Violations
The NBA has fined the Los Angeles Clippers $41.5 million and suspended owner Steve Ballmer for one year following violations of salary cap rules concerning Kawhi Leonard's contract. The league's decision comes after a year-long investigation that revealed significant breaches.
In addition to the hefty fine, Kawhi Leonard has been penalized $700,000, while Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank faces a six-month ban, and team president of business operations Gillian Zucker has been suspended for one year. The Clippers are also required to forfeit five draft picks as part of the penalties.
The Clippers have publicly rejected the NBA's findings, claiming the investigation was biased and asserting their intention to challenge the penalties. The league stated that the violations were serious and reflected institutional failures within the organization.
