NCAA Files Lawsuit Against Ohio Governor Over Eligibility Extension
The NCAA has filed a lawsuit against Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, just two days after he enacted an executive order allowing members of the high school class of 2022 to receive a fifth year of eligibility.
The 38-page complaint, which has been reviewed, presents multiple arguments, including references to the First Amendment and the Commerce Clause, aimed at challenging DeWine's order.
This legal action stems from the NCAA's recent implementation of a five-year eligibility model for the class of 2023, which has already led to numerous lawsuits from players affected by the eligibility timeline. DeWine's order, however, extends this fifth year to all players at Ohio institutions, raising questions about the NCAA's decision-making process and its handling of past antitrust violations.
