Nepal Rescue Teams Work to Reach Hundreds Trapped in Hydropower Tunnels

Rescue teams in Nepal, with assistance from experts from China and India, are working to reach hundreds of individuals believed to be trapped in blocked hydropower project tunnels after severe floods struck the region last week.

The floods, triggered by a glacier collapse, resulted in over 900 fatalities and left nearly 5,000 people missing. Many bodies have been buried in shallow graves due to decomposition in the humid conditions.

Authorities reported that 933 individuals are missing from hydropower projects, while the Red Cross estimates that more than 90,000 people have been affected. Rescue operations have faced interruptions due to adverse weather and fears of additional flooding from a lake formed by the disaster.
