New Arena Proposal for Seattle NBA Expansion Bid

A second group is pursuing a bid for an NBA expansion franchise in Seattle, proposing a new arena near Marysville, Washington, approximately 35 miles north of Seattle.

BlackSun Private Equity, based in New York, is partnering with the Tulalip Tribes to develop the arena on tribal land if their franchise bid is successful. Nick Rathod, BlackSun's chief global strategy and communications officer, emphasized the importance of community involvement in their proposal, aiming to create a compelling narrative around ownership.

The proposed arena site poses commuting challenges for Seattle fans, with travel times often exceeding an hour during rush hour. Rathod acknowledged these concerns and stated that they are exploring various transportation solutions to facilitate access. BlackSun's CEO indicated that they could attract enough investors to support a bid of up to $8.1 billion. Another bidder, One Roof Sports and Entertainment, is also in the running for the franchise.
