New Committee Established to Oversee Hockey India League's Future
The Sports Ministry of India has established a seven-member committee to address governance and future operations of the Hockey India League (HIL). This decision was made in response to ongoing leadership conflicts and postponed elections.
The committee is led by R. Vineel Krishna, the joint secretary of Khelo India, and includes key figures such as Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey, secretary general Bholanath Singh, and treasurer Sekar J. Manoharan. Additionally, representatives from HIL franchises, including Divyanshu Singh, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Alok Sanghi, are part of the group.
This initiative aims to resolve the current stalemate affecting the HIL, particularly amid tensions between Tirkey and other officials. The Hockey India elections, originally set for November 7, have been postponed, with new dates yet to be confirmed. Reports indicate that these elections may occur by late November or early December, depending on compliance with HI regulations.
