New Eco-Friendly Cricket Stadium in Spain Aims for Test Matches
Construction has commenced on Campo Maximo, a high-tech cricket stadium located near Alicante, Spain. The project is led by Australian entrepreneur Daniel Weston, who envisions the venue becoming a hub for European cricket and hosting Test matches in the future.
The stadium will feature innovative elements such as an artificial outfield designed to mimic natural grass, which is currently undergoing testing. This surface aims to reduce maintenance needs and enhance playing conditions, allowing for year-round cricket with the installation of floodlights.
With an initial capacity of 1,000 spectators, Campo Maximo is set to be operational by 2029. The venue will also incorporate sustainable practices, including solar energy and rainwater harvesting, reflecting Weston's commitment to environmental responsibility in sports.
