New Research Highlights Manta Ray Tourism in Nusa Penida

Recent research has shed light on the appeal of diving with manta rays in Nusa Penida, a region recognized for its marine conservation efforts. The study investigates what makes manta-ray diving attractive to tourists and identifies key factors that influence their choices.

Nusa Penida, part of Bali's marine conservation zone, is known for its reliable manta ray sightings. The research found that 78% of participants preferred diving as their main activity. Five positive factors were identified that enhance the likelihood of tourists selecting a manta-ray tour package, while three negative factors could deter them, including trip duration, weather dependency, and cost.

The findings suggest that for dive operators, improving these aspects can lead to increased bookings and repeat visits. However, the study also warns that without proper management, the popularity of manta diving could lead to issues like overcrowding and habitat damage, underscoring the need for sustainable tourism practices.
