New York Liberty Release Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, Opening Opportunities for Veteran

The New York Liberty announced the release of Betnijah Laney-Hamilton on Thursday, following a period of limited playing time under coach Chris DeMarco. The team has signed Marine Fauthoux to a multi-year deal to fill the vacant roster position.

Laney-Hamilton, a 33-year-old guard, had been a starter since joining the Liberty in 2021 and contributed to their 2024 WNBA championship. Despite her past achievements, including averaging 12.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, she had not played since July 12 due to being a healthy scratch.

Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb expressed gratitude for Laney-Hamilton's contributions and stated that the decision allows her to seek a larger role elsewhere. With her guaranteed contract of $400,000, she will become a free agent if she clears waivers, making her an attractive option for teams needing depth ahead of the playoffs.
