NFL Acknowledges Officiating Error in Week 5 Game
The NFL has acknowledged a significant officiating error that occurred during Week 5 of the season. The mistake involved a penalty assessed against Buccaneers defensive lineman Calijah Kancey for illegal hands to the face, when in fact it was Cowboys guard Tyler Booker who committed the infraction.
In a weekly officiating video, NFL officiating analyst Walt Anderson explained that the penalty was misattributed to Kancey, despite the clear evidence showing Booker was at fault. Anderson emphasized that such blatant mistakes should be corrected promptly by the league's officiating office.
Kancey was aware of the erroneous call at the time, but players have limited recourse to address incorrect penalties during the game. The New York officiating office had the opportunity to rectify the situation but did not intervene.
