NFL Clears Eagles of Wrongdoing in Jalen Hurts' Medical Handling
The Philadelphia Eagles will not be penalized by the NFL for their management of Jalen Hurts' medical condition, as confirmed by The Athletic. Hurts is anticipated to miss the remainder of the 2026 season due to blood clots found in his lungs.
The league has stated that the process leading to Hurts being cleared to play in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars was handled correctly. Consequently, the Eagles will not face any repercussions for their medical procedures or for not designating Hurts as injured prior to the game.
Last Thursday, the Eagles announced that a superficial blood clot on Hurts' calf had shown movement, prompting them to rule him out for the upcoming Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers. The NFL was informed of the situation the previous week. Following the public disclosure of Hurts' diagnosis, there were conflicting reports regarding his status, including an initial decision not to place him on injured reserve, which was later reversed. A subsequent scan revealed that Hurts' condition had worsened to deep vein thrombosis, with blood clots now present in both lungs. Despite questions surrounding the decision to allow him to play, the NFL concluded that the Eagles acted appropriately in this matter.
