NFL Considers Flexing Week 8 Sunday Night Game
The NFL is evaluating the possibility of changing the Sunday night matchup in Week 8, specifically considering whether to flex the Eagles-Commanders game. Both teams are currently underperforming, with the Eagles at 2-3 and the Commanders at 1-3-1, which may lead the league to reconsider this prime-time slot.
According to NFL regulations, any flex decision for Week 8 must be announced by October 20, allowing both teams to play one more game before the league's decision. The Eagles will host the Panthers, while the Commanders will face the undefeated 49ers on Monday night. If the Commanders lose, they would drop to 1-4-1, and the NFL may prefer not to showcase a matchup with such a record.
The league faces challenges in finding a suitable alternative for the flex, as many of the other games scheduled for that week do not present strong options. Additionally, CBS and Fox have the ability to protect certain games from being flexed, complicating the decision-making process.
