NFL Considers International Expansion with Potential New Divisions
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has indicated that the league may establish teams outside the United States in the future, sparking discussions among sports commentators.
According to NFL insider Mike Florio, the league could aim for a total of 40 teams divided into five divisions per conference, including international divisions. One division might feature teams in London and Germany, while another could include franchises in Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and Australia.
Speculation about international divisions has circulated since at least 2015, with suggestions that teams could spend extended periods abroad. Goodell previously expressed confidence in London's capacity to support multiple NFL franchises, supported by the presence of two suitable stadiums. However, there is currently no set timeline for these developments, although the league's leadership views the establishment of a European division as a feasible objective.
