NFL Emphasizes International Expansion and Flag Football Growth
The NFL is prioritizing international growth as it continues to dominate the sports landscape in the United States. During a recent media call, NFL Executive Vice President for Media Distribution Hans Schroeder emphasized the increasing popularity of flag football, particularly in light of its inclusion in the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
This season, the NFL will host a record nine games outside the U.S., marking the highest number of international games in its history. Schroeder pointed out that the league has also established a tradition of playing prime time games in Week One, with recent matches held in Brazil and Australia.
Despite these efforts, there are concerns about potentially alienating American fans, who may be displeased with teams sacrificing home games for international play and the early Sunday morning broadcasts of games from Europe. The NFL aims to balance its international ambitions with maintaining its strong domestic fan base.
