NFL Implements New Player Safety Suspension System
The NFL and the NFL Players Association have established a new system designed to improve player safety, which will lead to suspensions for specific rule violations. This system stipulates that a player will face suspension after committing three violations of the same rule within a single year.
The rules that fall under this new system include hip-drop tackles, horse-collar tackles, launching, hits on defenseless players, and blindside blocks. A suspension will only occur if a player violates the same rule three times; for instance, three hip-drop tackles would result in a suspension, while a mix of violations would not.
According to a source familiar with the matter, the NFL Players Association informed players that under this new system, one player would have faced suspension in 2024 and another in 2025. This change aims to alter players' perspectives on fines, as the threat of suspension may encourage them to reconsider their playing style.
