NFL Imposes Record Fines for Player Safety Violations in Week 4
The NFL reported a total of 10 fines for player safety violations during Week 4, the highest number issued in the current season. These infractions could lead to possible suspensions for the players involved.
Among those fined was Ravens linebacker Trenton Simpson, who received a penalty of $17,911 for a horsecollar tackle. Other players penalized include Browns defensive tackle Adin Huntington, Lions linebacker Jack Campbell, Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jets defensive end Darrell Jackson, and Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori, all fined for hip-drop tackles.
Additionally, Cowboys cornerback Reddy Steward, Texans cornerback Kamari Lassiter, and Rams linebacker Nate Landman were fined for hits on defenseless players. Broncos offensive lineman Ben Powers was also penalized for a blindside block. A total of three fines in any category can result in an automatic one-game suspension, although players have the option to appeal their fines.
