NFL Places Jonathon Cooper on Paid Leave

The NFL has placed Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper on the Commissioner Exempt list as part of its Personal Conduct Policy. This decision follows the earlier announcement regarding Packers running back Josh Jacobs also being placed on paid leave.

Cooper is facing multiple charges related to a domestic violence incident that occurred in June 2026. His attorney, Harvey Steinberg, expressed strong feelings after charges against Cooper's girlfriend were dropped.

Drafted in the seventh round in 2021, Cooper has been a starter in 17 regular-season games over the past three years with the Broncos. Earlier this year, he restructured his contract, receiving $10.275 million, and will continue to earn a base salary of $1.215 million. However, his $30,000 per-game active roster bonuses may be at risk, depending on his contract's terms.
