During the preseason, many rookies, especially those who are undrafted or low-drafted, aim to impress and secure a spot on the roster. However, data indicates that a strong preseason does not necessarily lead to significant regular-season contributions. In the most recent preseason, 45 rookies achieved an overall PFF grade of 80.0 or higher, the highest in five years, yet only one of them maintained a similar performance in the regular season.

This trend suggests that while some rookies shine in August, the majority struggle to translate that success into meaningful playing time. Many of the standout rookies are often buried on depth charts, limiting their opportunities. The findings highlight that while preseason performance can be valuable, it does not guarantee success in the regular season, urging caution in overvaluing preseason achievements.
