NFL to Schedule Selective Wednesday Games
The NFL has initiated the scheduling of certain games on Wednesdays, although this will be done selectively. NFL executive Hans Schroeder indicated that Wednesday games are not expected to become a regular occurrence.
Schroeder mentioned that the league will consider creative scheduling opportunities, similar to those on Thanksgiving Eve or Christmas, but will analyze viewership data to determine the viability of such games. The league's past decisions regarding Christmas games illustrate that financial considerations could influence future scheduling.
During the pandemic, the NFL demonstrated the feasibility of playing on non-traditional days, leading to discussions about potentially moving more games from Sunday afternoons to prime-time slots. The league may assign Wednesday games to teams coming off a bye week or those that played the previous Thursday.
