NHL Expansion Bid for Atlanta Not Advancing

A group seeking to introduce an NHL expansion team to the Atlanta area has stated that recent reports suggesting their bid was nearing completion were incorrect. The organization, known as The Gathering at South Forsyth, had been mentioned in a social media post as having submitted a final packet for NHL approval.

However, Vernon Krause, CEO of Krause Sports and Entertainment, clarified that the NHL has not made any decisions regarding their project and that they are not in the application phase for expansion. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly also confirmed that the process is far from reaching an application stage.

The Gathering at South Forsyth aims to create a multi-use arena and community space in Forsyth County, north of Atlanta. Another proposal involves redeveloping The North Point Mall in Alpharetta into an NHL-capable arena, which has received rezoning approval. Meanwhile, the NHL is currently evaluating an expansion bid from The Friedkin Group, considering Houston or Austin for its next franchise.
