Nicholas Cena Chronicles Pavones' Struggles in New Book

Nicholas Cena began writing his book, Nick's Place: Last Stop Before Nowhere, shortly after the government demolished his restaurant in Pavones, Costa Rica. This destruction occurred when heavy machinery was used to tear down neighboring buildings, prompting Cena and his wife to salvage their belongings before their establishment was also destroyed.

The regional government agency had issued eviction notices to several businesses along the main road, claiming improper land acquisition under maritime laws. They relied on outdated maps to justify the demolitions, which included Cena's restaurant, opened in 2017, along with a supermarket and other local businesses. Cena argues that his restaurant had the necessary permits and criticizes the government's actions as irrational and corrupt.

Although labeled as fiction to avoid legal issues, Cena asserts that his book is based on true events. He aims to convey the essence of Pavones and its community's struggle against external pressures. After losing his restaurant, Cena is in the process of rebuilding at a new location, set to open in two months, while expressing concerns about the future of the town amidst potential development interests.
