Nick Kyrgios Receives One-Month Suspension for Cocaine Use
Nick Kyrgios has accepted a one-month suspension from the International Tennis Integrity Association following a positive cocaine test at a tournament in Spain in June. The announcement was made on Thursday.
The Australian tennis player, 31, had been provisionally suspended since August 4. Kyrgios informed investigators that he used cocaine socially during a night out prior to his scheduled match in Mallorca. After consulting with a World Anti-Doping Association expert, he acknowledged that the use occurred outside of competition.
The International Tennis Integrity Association noted that Kyrgios' suspension will conclude on Thursday, contingent upon his completion of a treatment program. As a result of the suspension, he forfeits his prize money and ranking points from the Mallorca event, where he lost his only match to Adam Walton. Kyrgios, a Wimbledon finalist in 2022, has only participated in four ATP singles matches this year and currently holds a world ranking of 918.
