Nick Kyrgios Suspended After Positive Cocaine Test
Former Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios announced on Wednesday that he tested positive for cocaine, leading to his provisional suspension. The 31-year-old Australian, who has faced various disciplinary issues, revealed that he felt helpless and alone due to injuries that have impacted his career.
Kyrgios, currently ranked 919th, tested positive during a lower-tier grass court event in Spain in June. He has only played 10 singles matches on the ATP tour since his peak in 2022, where he reached the Wimbledon final but lost to Novak Djokovic. Following the positive test, he acknowledged his mistake and expressed a desire to take responsibility.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency confirmed that Kyrgios's sample was collected on June 22, with the positive result reported on July 17. He faces a potential ban of up to four years, although lesser sanctions are possible for drug use outside of competition. Kyrgios plans to take a break from social media and public life for 28 days to focus on his well-being.
