Nick Martinez, who was not offered a contract by the Mets, excelled with a 15-6 record and a 3.10 ERA for the Rays, now starting in the World Series.
Nick Martinez, the starting pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the World Series, had previously expressed strong interest in joining the New York Mets as a free agent last winter.
Despite the Mets being among his preferred teams, they chose not to offer him a contract. Martinez went on to achieve a notable season with a 15-6 record and a 3.10 ERA, showcasing his talent in Tampa Bay's rotation.
While Martinez's success is significant, it is not the only misstep for the Mets this offseason, as Freddy Peralta's performance also stands out. The Mets' decision not to sign Martinez is now viewed as another error in their winter strategy.
