NIFL CEO Addresses EGM and Season Start Concerns

Gerard Lawlor, the CEO of the Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL), has stated that there were no agreements made to facilitate last week's extraordinary general meeting (EGM), which was essential to prevent delays in the new season's commencement.

The restructuring of local football has introduced a new Conference League, replacing the Premier Intermediate League. Banbridge Town, one of the clubs transitioned to this new league, successfully challenged the NIFL's decision, arguing that proper approval from member clubs was not obtained. This led to the necessity of the EGM, where 90% of NIFL's members needed to approve three proposals to ensure the season could start on time.

Despite initial concerns about meeting this threshold, all motions were passed. Lawlor expressed confidence that the season would begin as scheduled, acknowledging the need for an independent review to address the issues that arose during this process. He emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations and recognized that the NIFL had overlooked certain procedural aspects, which contributed to the challenges faced.
