Nikesh Arora Leads $1 Billion Bid for NBA London Expansion Team
The NBA plans to launch its inaugural European season in the latter half of 2027, featuring 16 teams. Among the new franchises is a London team, which American billionaire Nikesh Arora is negotiating to purchase.
Arora, who previously led a consortium that acquired a significant stake in the London Spirit cricket franchise, has gathered investors willing to offer more than $1 billion for the London team. He is the CEO of Palo Alto Networks and has been involved in high-profile sports investments.
In addition to Arora's bid, other notable investors, including the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and Qatar Sports Investments, are also pursuing new teams in London and Paris, respectively. The NBA has received over 120 expressions of interest, with bids ranging from $500 million to over $1 billion, indicating strong market interest in European basketball.
