NJPW's G1 Climax Winner Ryohei Oiwa to Challenge for IWGP Heavyweight Title

NJPW has announced that Ryohei Oiwa, the winner of this year's G1 Climax, will challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at the King of Pro Wrestling event on October 12, 2026.

Oiwa's opponent will be determined from the upcoming title defense between current champion Yota Tsuji and Hirooki Goto. This marks the third consecutive year that the G1 winner will receive their title shot at King of Pro Wrestling, a shift from the previous tradition of waiting until Wrestle Kingdom.

Oiwa, a prominent rising star in NJPW, secured his G1 victory by defeating Yuya Uemura. This win is significant as it represents Oiwa's first G1 title and he aims to capture his first singles championship in professional wrestling.
