No Immediate Deal for Colts' Quenton Nelson Ahead of Week 1

As the Indianapolis Colts prepare for Week 1, there is no imminent contract extension for guard Quenton Nelson, according to ESPN’s Stephen Holder.

Previously, the Colts managed to finalize a deal with Nelson at the last minute, but this time, discussions have not progressed significantly. The Colts typically avoid major in-season contracts, although exceptions can occur. Nelson is expected to fulfill his current contract, which includes $18 million in cash for this year and a potential franchise tag worth over $25 million in 2027.

Nelson, a former first-round draft pick from Notre Dame in 2018, signed a four-year, $80 million extension in 2023, setting a record for guards at that time. He played all 17 games for the Colts in 2025, earning a high grade from Pro Football Focus.
