Norris Secures Fourth Place from Piastri in Thrilling Final Lap at Monza
Lando Norris achieved a crucial pass on the final lap at Monza, overtaking his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri to secure fourth place. Norris, who started the race in eighth position, closed in on Piastri after the latter fell from third to sixth due to a blocking penalty.
The competition intensified as Norris initially passed Piastri on lap 48, only for Piastri to reclaim the position shortly after. A tense moment occurred when Norris went onto the grass, leading to a reminder from McLaren for Piastri to maintain a clean race. After the race, Norris reflected that the incident seemed more serious from his perspective in the car.
Piastri noted that the final laps revolved around the strategic use of battery energy, with both drivers opting for different tactics. Norris ultimately succeeded in his second attempt at Ascari on lap 53. Both drivers agreed that their fourth and fifth place finishes represented the best possible outcome for McLaren, especially given their performance limitations compared to Mercedes. The race concluded with both cars intact, avoiding any costly incidents.
