Norseman XTri World Championship Sees Surge in 2027 Entries
The 2027 Norseman XTri World Championship has seen a dramatic increase in lottery entries, with 16,033 athletes applying, more than double the previous year's total of 7,956. The median age of applicants has decreased from 38 to 34, and the number of female entrants has nearly tripled to 1,907.
The race, which began in 2003 with just 21 participants, has grown in popularity and is now considered a premier extreme triathlon event. Athletes will swim 3.8 km in the Hardangerfjord, bike 180 km, and run 42.2 km, with significant elevation gain throughout the course.
This year, athletes from 110 countries entered the lottery, with Norway contributing the largest number of participants. Organizers are implementing new safety measures for the 2027 race, including tighter cutoff times and reduced traffic on the course. The ballot announcement for the race will be made on October 21, 2023.
