North Melbourne Issues Apology to Essendon Over Incident
North Melbourne has issued an apology to Essendon after an incident that took place last month involving former coach Alastair Clarkson.
The apology was prompted by Clarkson's inappropriate comment made in a lift with Essendon AFLW players, which referenced allegations against a group of Sydney players who have been suspended. Clarkson expressed regret and apologized directly to the Essendon players following the incident on August 23.
Essendon accepted the apology, which did not influence the club's decision to terminate Clarkson's contract, a decision announced earlier on the same day. This incident follows a previous $20,000 fine imposed on Clarkson in 2024 for using homophobic language, adding to a series of controversies surrounding him.
