Tirante, a 25-year-old from Argentina ranked No. 50 in the world, defeated the 39-year-old Djokovic with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. This match marked Djokovic's first appearance since his semifinal loss to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon.
Djokovic, a three-time champion at the Cincinnati Open and currently ranked No. 5, had his 10-match winning streak in the tournament come to an end.
