Nuggets Offered Peyton Watson Four-Year Contract Amid Trade Rumors
This summer, the Denver Nuggets extended a four-year contract offer to Peyton Watson valued at around $70 million, as confirmed by Brian Windhorst of ESPN on the Hoops Collective podcast.
Windhorst noted that other teams showed interest in trading for Cameron Johnson, which could have yielded positive returns for the Nuggets. However, the situation with Christian Braun remains uncertain due to his substantial contract of $125 million over five years, contrasting with Johnson's expiring deal of $23.1 million.
Denver faced challenges in maintaining last season's roster due to financial limitations. Instead of meeting Watson's contract demands, which led him to sign a four-year, $88 million deal with Cleveland, the Nuggets opted to retain Johnson, Spencer Jones, and Braun. Windhorst indicated that while the Nuggets were willing to keep Watson, they prioritized the duo of Johnson and Jones, leading to their decision.
