NWSL to Start Season Earlier in 2027 Due to Women's World Cup
The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is set to commence its 15th season on February 11, 2027, marking an earlier start than in previous years to align with the Women's World Cup in Brazil.
The league will also host its annual Challenge Cup match on February 6. A break is scheduled from June 24 to July 25 to allow players to participate in the World Cup. The playoffs are slated to begin on November 5, with the championship match on November 20.
NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman highlighted the strategic timing of the season's start during Super Bowl weekend, aiming to integrate the league into the broader sports narrative of that time. The league is expected to maintain its spring to fall schedule through at least 2030, despite discussions about potentially aligning with international leagues.
