Ofsted Finds Significant Risks at Nursery After Wrong Child Incident
An Ofsted inspection has identified serious safeguarding issues at a nursery in Crosby, Merseyside, where a man mistakenly drove off with a two-year-old girl. The incident occurred when the grandfather of another child took the girl before realizing the error and returning her to the nursery.
The inspection, conducted shortly after the June incident, highlighted weaknesses in the nursery's safeguarding policies, which failed to consistently protect children. The nursery acknowledged the mistake, attributing it to human error and stating that established procedures were not followed.
The mother of the child involved expressed frustration over the lack of clear answers regarding the incident, claiming discrepancies between the information provided by the nursery and CCTV footage. Ofsted's report noted that the nursery had taken steps to improve security and collection procedures following the incident, but emphasized that risk assessment practices needed significant improvement.
