Ohtani Set to Return to Dodgers Lineup, Pitching Unlikely This Season

Shohei Ohtani is anticipated to rejoin the Los Angeles Dodgers for their game against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday, but he is not expected to pitch again this season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts mentioned that Ohtani's return is contingent on his condition remaining stable. Ohtani has missed four consecutive games due to discomfort in his left knee and right biceps, marking a significant absence for the player who had not missed more than two games in a row since joining the Dodgers.

Despite a challenging season, Ohtani has recorded 30 home runs and 80 RBIs, maintaining a .279 batting average. He previously excelled as a pitcher with a 1.79 ERA before injuries limited him to designated hitter duties. In Ohtani's absence, Tommy Edman has been leading off for the Dodgers as they pursue a series sweep against the Nationals.
