Oilers Edge Hurricanes in Shootout Victory
On Thursday night, the Edmonton Oilers secured a 6-5 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes in a shootout, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins netting the winning goal.
Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid each contributed significantly, scoring two goals and providing three assists. Nugent-Hopkins also added an assist and scored during regulation play. The Hurricanes responded with goals from Jackson Blake, Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, Logan Stankhoven, and Juuso Valimaki, but have now lost two of their last three games.
Brandon Bussi made 16 saves for Carolina. Jarvis marked his return from off-season shoulder surgery with a goal in his season debut. Nugent-Hopkins, returning from a lower-body injury, became the franchise leader for most seasons played with the Oilers at 16. Edmonton tied the game late with McDavid's deflected shot, extending his league-leading point total to 31 in just 10 games.
The Hurricanes will finish their five-game road trip in St. Louis on Saturday, while the Oilers will host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
