Oklahoma City Thunder Consider Reacquiring Former Players Amid Injury Crisis
The Oklahoma City Thunder are facing a significant injury crisis, with key players sidelined ahead of their game against the Dallas Mavericks. Last season, 11 players logged over 900 minutes for the team, but injuries have left most of the core rotation unavailable, prompting speculation about potential trades.
Among the injured are Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace, while Alex Caruso and Chet Holmgren are also out for the upcoming game. With a wealth of assets, the Thunder are in a position to pursue a trade, and ESPN's Brian Windhorst hinted at the possibility of reacquiring a player they have previously traded.
However, the NBA rules restrict teams from reacquiring players until the following season after a trade, which currently excludes Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe, and Aaron Wiggins from consideration. While some former Thunder players could be available, their high salaries or importance to their current teams may limit options. Notably, Victor Oladipo and Al Horford have been mentioned as potential targets, but the feasibility of such moves remains uncertain.
