Oliver Bearman Criticizes 10-Second Penalty After Collision with Pierre Gasly
Oliver Bearman was surprised to receive a 10-second penalty for his collision with Pierre Gasly during the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. The incident occurred after Bearman made a move on Gasly, resulting in contact that damaged both cars.
Bearman gained two positions on the opening lap and attempted to overtake Gasly at Turn 13. Despite trying to avoid contact by using the kerb, his front-left wheel made contact with Gasly's car. The FIA stewards deemed this incident worthy of a penalty, which Bearman felt was excessive compared to other incidents this season.
The collision caused damage to Bearman's car, leading to a decline in performance over the following laps. He eventually retired from the race on lap 24 due to worsening conditions. Gasly, who finished 10th, noted that the damage from the collision impacted his car's downforce, hindering his ability to compete effectively.
