OpenAI Engineer Charged for Installing Recording Device in Conference Room
An engineer at OpenAI, Abdulrahman Alfozan, has been charged with secretly installing a recording device in a conference room, as reported by officials. The arrest occurred on Friday, following the discovery of the device on September 30, which was hidden in toilet paper and connected to a television's USB port.
The criminal complaint, filed in federal court in San Francisco, indicates that Alfozan, a 35-year-old Saudi national, was seen near the conference room multiple times without authorization. OpenAI confirmed the incident and stated that they reported the matter to the FBI, leading to Alfozan's termination.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Alfozan had made inquiries about the company's facilities and had previously left a bag containing his identification and another recording device in a different room. He made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, facing charges related to the interception of oral communications.
