Oregon State Coach Advocates for Inclusive College Football Playoff
JaMarcus Shephard, the head coach of the Oregon State Beavers, is advocating for a 24-team College Football Playoff that would allow all conference champions to participate. He argues that the current system favors a few dominant conferences, particularly the SEC and Big Ten, and risks sidelining many teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
Shephard believes that every student-athlete, regardless of their conference, deserves a fair opportunity to compete for a championship. He highlighted that all athletes operate under the same NCAA rules and should be rewarded based on their achievements, not their conference affiliation.
Oregon State is currently performing well, with a record of 5-2 and undefeated in Pac-12 play, positioning themselves just outside the AP Top 25 rankings. The team is noted for its strong offensive performance, averaging 527 yards per game and leading the nation in passing yards. With a crucial game against Fresno State approaching, the Beavers are expected to continue their upward trajectory.
