Orioles Add Luis Vazquez to Roster Ahead of Game Against Cardinals
The Baltimore Orioles have selected the contract of infielder Luis Vazquez prior to their game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. Vazquez will replace outfielder Tyler O'Neill, who is being placed on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation.
Vazquez, who was previously in contention for a bench position with the Orioles, suffered a thumb injury in March and started the season in the minor leagues. He has recorded a 71 wRC+ in 58 games this season across two levels.
The Orioles acquired Vazquez from the Chicago Cubs in a cash transaction before the 2025 season. Last year, he played 36 games for Baltimore, hitting .160 while appearing at all four infield positions and even pitching in four games. This season, he has primarily played shortstop with Triple-A Norfolk, making at least eight starts at second base, third base, and shortstop.
