Orioles Designate Albert Suárez for Assignment
The Baltimore Orioles have designated right-handed pitcher Albert Suárez for assignment, announcing the move alongside the recall of Anthony Nunez from Triple-A Norfolk.
Suárez, 36, has had a fluctuating role with the Orioles over the past few years. He performed well in 2024, pitching 133 2/3 innings with a 3.70 earned run average. However, injuries limited his appearances last season, leading to a non-tender at the end of the year. After re-signing on a minor league deal, he has faced multiple designations for assignment this season, marking his fourth such occurrence.
This year, Suárez has pitched 55 innings across 25 games, with a 3.93 earned run average. Despite a decent walk rate of 8.3%, his strikeout and ground ball rates are below average. With the trade deadline passed, he is expected to clear waivers again, potentially following a similar path as earlier this year.
