Orioles Designate Luis Vázquez for Assignment
The Baltimore Orioles announced on Monday that infielder Luis Vázquez has been designated for assignment. This move allows outfielder Luis Robert Jr. to take his place on the roster following a previously reported waiver claim.
Vázquez, who is 26 years old, has had limited action this season with only one plate appearance in the major leagues. Last year, he played 36 games for the Orioles, achieving a batting line of .160/.208/.240 over 53 plate appearances. He has primarily served as a versatile late-game option, capable of playing all four infield positions.
This season, Vázquez has participated in 58 games at the Triple-A level, posting a batting average of .238/.284/.371. Throughout his six seasons in Triple-A, he has accumulated a batting line of .247/.327/.398 over 1,033 plate appearances. Following the trade deadline, Vázquez can only be placed on waivers, and if unclaimed, he may opt for free agency or remain with the Orioles, with the possibility of becoming a minor league free agent at the end of the season.
