Orioles Extend Pitchers Baz and Bradish Amid Questions on Rogers
The Baltimore Orioles have finalized contract extensions for pitchers Shane Baz and Kyle Bradish this season. Baz signed a five-year deal worth $68 million shortly before the start of the season, while Bradish's five-year extension is valued at $90 million and was agreed upon around the All-Star Break.
Shane Baz, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays, had a mixed performance in his debut season with the Orioles, posting a 4.11 ERA over 31 starts. His pitching style evolved with the addition of a sinker, which helped reduce his home run rate. Meanwhile, Kyle Bradish, who has been with the Orioles since 2019, faced challenges early in his career but showed promise with a strong 2023 season before injuries limited his appearances.
Despite the extensions, questions linger about the decision not to extend Trevor Rogers, who was traded to the Orioles in 2024. Rogers had a standout 2025 season but struggled early in 2026 before recovering in the latter part of the season. As he approaches free agency, the Orioles may still consider re-signing him, as he has been a key contributor to the team's pitching staff.
